Chelsea can announce £144m signings next week as Enzo Maresca masterplan hinges on key condition

Chelsea are closing in on their fourth summer signing - with sales likely crucial to any more transfers beyond that. Liam Delap, Mamadou Sarr and Dario Essugo have all seen their moves confirmed over the last months with Enzo Maresca and Co. now targeting a new winger.

The Blues appeared well-stocked in that department but not buying Jadon Sancho permanently from Manchester United and Mykhailo Mudryk's impending ban for doping has seen them left somewhat light. Noni Madueke could also depart ahead of the 2025/26 season.

A plethora of names have been linked but it became clear very quickly that Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens was their top choice. An offer was put in writing prior to the Club World Cup commencing but that was swiftly rejected.

Gittens has since played just 13 minutes for Dortmund in the United States but his name has remained firmly in the headlines. With representatives of both clubs overseas, a face-to-face meeting took place and that in turn led to a huge breakthrough in talks.

The Bundesliga giants are holding out for £60million (€70million) with Chelsea, seemingly, working on a favourable payment structure. There is no major rush from those in west London, however, with the deal likely to be complete and ratified after Monday, June 30 and thus in the new financial year.

Despite eye-catching spending over these last few years, Chelsea have no major worries over breaking profit and sustainability rules with losses nowhere near the £105million over a three-year rolling period that would put club's in breach.

"Chelsea's financial year for 2024/25 runs until the end of this month, and the club booked the sale of its women's team to a related party at a valuation of £200m during the 2023/24 accounting period, resulting in a £128m profit," Reach PLC Chief Business of Football Writer Dave Powell said.

"Again, all legal and above board, with Premier League clubs recently choosing not to close that particular loophole due to other clubs potentially wanting to explore that avenue."
